Cemetery Mapping now progresses to the next level.  With the use of
Internet mapping systems such as Google Maps becoming mainstream, the need to locate cemetery plots dynamically via web based maps is paramount.  The popularity of Genealogy searches, in addition to the requirement for more
efficient cemetery inventory tracking, drive the need to move to digital
cemetery mapping.

LaudonTech, a Canadian based mapping and technology firm, provides a low
cost solution to cemetery mapping.  With a simple pick from a list of
cemetery records, a map automatically zooms to the plot location.  One
click on the plot location provides a wealth of information regarding the
grave site.  Grave Images, deceased dates, etc. are accessed with a simple
click on the map.  LaudonTech provides a demonstration site here:

LaudonTech News Releases

Vancouver, BC, Canada - 05/11/07

New Mapping Technology Delivers Business or Personal Maps via Google Maps/Microsoft Virtual Earth.

Getting a map via the Internet has become commonplace in the evolving world of Internet usage. A new mapping technology provides a method of leveraging online maps such as Google Mapstm and Microsoft Virtual Earthtm to publish personal or business related mapping data.

With 69.7% of North Americans now having access to the Internet (http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats14.htm), traditional methods for accessing live information are becoming obsolete. The public has become accustomed to "googling" the web to acquire information. This information includes mapping data. Online mapping usage has increased sharply due to the advent of mapping features such as driving directions, local business searches, 3d map views and Birds Eye Map views. A new method of adding value to Internet mapping frameworks has recently emerged. This method, known in Internet terms as a "Map Mashup", provides a means to take personal or business related geographic information (i.e. maps, locations) and "mashing" it with web based mapping systems. The resulting mashups are shared with the public for free, resulting in instant worldwide exposure.

Examples of common mashups include real estate maps (Zillow.com), personalized maps (Platial.com) or weather maps (WeatherBonk.com). These mashups are simple in nature; usually displaying symbols or points on a map. A new technology is now available providing the means to take actual maps in various formats and mashing them up with web based mapping sites. Example of these new mashups are golf course layouts (http://www.laudontech.com/golf/wildhorse.html) or City Zoning Maps (http://www.laudontech.com/googlemapsdemo/zoning_p.html). Any map can now be quickly shared using this new technology. The possibilities are endless: bicycle maps, transit maps, national park maps, university maps, antique city maps, or even aerial photography data.
